Our July theme is Service to Country.

Monday July 21 - District Governor Jim Campbell's official visit. DG Jim met with the Board before the meeting and presented Pres Bob his first Paul Harris Fellowship during the meeting. More below.

July 22 - Board Meeting 5:00pm, Mike Burton's office.

Bulletin Editor Kathy Chiverton - Kathy will take over the printed bulletin while Vic G is out. The website will not be updated during Vic's absence.

Reminder - Members please pay by check or invoice remittance to cut down front desk work.

Annual Foundation Gifts - Please make your checks payable to the Rotary Foundation, not RI as mentioned in the note you received.

Speaker Chair Jim Crocker - Please give your speaker recommendations to Jim.

Front Desk Signups -See Kevin Crockett to sign up for front desk duty.

District Conference Oct 23-25 in Concord this year - That's less than four months away, and close enough that every Danville Rotarian can attend some part of it without an overnight stay. Reservation form can be found at the District website. Fifteen percent (15%) discount for signing up by August 31.

Highlights of Governor's Presentation -This is a very brief summary of an interesting and wide ranging 30 minute presentation:

The theme logo at left is a mother holding her child. Every day, 35,000 children under the age of 5 die of easily preventable causes such as bad water. Rotary's programs make dreams real for the parents of children in impoverished countries.

Foundation - Every year the requests for grant funding throughout the District far exceed the funds available. Foundation requests for increased support are nothing more than recognition that the district as a whole would like to take on more projects.

Ethiopia Project -The District has the funding to take 1,000 LN-4 hands to Ethiopia in May 2009. DG Jim would like to see 100 to 150 Rotarians make the trip for the cost of airfare and lodging. The trip includes a District Conference in Kenya. The contacts are Cecil Padilla in Winters and Jim Green in Antioch.

District Conference - Will be out of the ordinary. There are 18 break out sessions for Rotarians, friends, and family members. Hands on sessions include LN-4 hand assembly, sterile water tester assembly, AIDS Bears, and something else that escapes the editors mind at the moment.

Rotary Day at Golden Gate Fields: $30 admission with 10% going to Rotary. It's in October, we need to reconfirm the day and date. The signup sheet will go around next week.

Gold Nugget Drawing - Steve Grote struck gold, gave it to the Foundation. The pot is $25 this week.
